Basic Crimping Instructions
Crimping is a method of terminating a wire by using a crimping tool to compress the contact body around the wire, firmly connecting the contact to the wire. The crimping process ensures metal to metal contact and establishes reliable mechanical and electrical connections. Crimp terminals are the preferred method for high-performance applications because they have a higher contact density, ease of installation, and higher reliability than solder terminals. Crimping tools and suitable locators are necessary for effective and reliable crimping connections. Crimp tools can easily replace locators to terminate contacts of various sizes, making crimp termination a quick and simple task. If the pressure contact point is damaged, it can also be removed and replaced without replacing the entire connector.
The following steps will guide you through the basic contact crimping process. Before starting, please read all instructions and collect all necessary materials, including connectors, wires, contacts, connector accessories, crimpers, molds, wire strippers/cutters, and straight edges. Don't forget to wear appropriate eye protection when working.
· Step 1
Slide the rear cover and accessories onto the wiring harness in the correct order. This must be done before crimping, as once the contact is inserted into the connector, the accessory cannot be placed on the cable.
· Step 2
Select the appropriate crimping tool and positioner based on the contact size you are using. Open the crimp tool by pressing the handle until the ratchet is released and the tool is fully open. Always adjust the tool in the open position to avoid damage.
· Step 3
Adjust the selector knob of the crimper to the recommended setting on the positioner dial, which corresponds to the contact size and wire gauge used. While using the turret positioner, ensure that the turret is pressed into the positioner body until the appropriate contact size is selected and locked in place.
· Step 4
· Step 5
After peeling off the wire insulation, clean the exposed conductor with an alcohol swab to remove any impurities.

Step 10

· Step 11
Remove the tool and gently pull the wire back to ensure that the contacts are properly secured. Repeat the process for each remaining contact. For connectors with high contact density, starting with the central cavity, work outward in a circular pattern.
· Step 12
· Step 13
Check the mating surface of the connector to ensure that all contacts are fully inserted. If not, completely remove the partially inserted contact using a suitable extraction tool and insert it again. Fill all unused cavities with sealing plugs to provide an environmental seal to the connector surface. The sealing plug should first be inserted into the head until fully seated.
